A political pressure group, Delta Central Progressives Forum
(DCPF) has reaffirmed its support for the speaker of the DTHA, the Rt.Hon
Victor Ochei’s ambition to become governor of Delta State, come 2015.
The group reaffirmed the support during the occasion of the
inauguration of the Uvwie LGA executive held at the Crown Hotel, Saturday, June 8.
The debate on whether or not, Rt Hon Victor Ochei should be
the right aspirant among others to earn the support of the group was prompted
by a remark by made by Chief Oweh Johnson, a leader of the group in Ethiope
East LGA.
Chief Oweh had described Rt Hon Victor Ochei as a man of
integrity who deserves the right to serve as the governor of Delta State in
2015.
He argued that by the principle of zoning arrangement, the
choice of who becomes governor of Delta of Delta State in 2015 shifts to Delta
North in the spirit of equity and fairness adding that considering the untoward
consequences of playing politics of opposition, the Urhobo people need to
support Rt Hon Victor Ochei who is the obviously favoured aspirant of Delta
North where the 2015 choice now tilts.
But Chief Dr Omonigho Ogbakpah, a leader of the group in Ethiope
West opposed the stand of Chief of Oweh and declared that he was not a member
of the PDP and did not believe in the zoning arrangement of the PDP for the
choice of who becomes the governor of Delta State. He said he and his followers
were made to believe that the group embraces politicians of all partisan shades
and that they had resolved to lend their support to Rt. Hon Victor Ochei based
on his personal merit as the best person who can represent the interest of the
entirety of Deltans as governor in 2015 and not necessarily because of a zoning
arrangement.
“The zoning arrangement had messed up the political system
before. As a Nigerian, I was allowed tocontest for a seat in
the United States House of Assembly and that that is how it should be done”.
He harped on the need for the beneficiaries of political
support to remember those who worked for them and cautioned the DCPF members
against selling their political future and fortunes for peanuts and suffer
later.
“Please wake up and let us choose a leader because he is
leader” he said. Victor Ochei is the Pointer for the group.
Hon Robinson Ighoroje, Chairman of DCPF In Ughelli North
lent his support to the position of Chief Oweh saying that in politicking the
direction of political actors is always defined and that the Rt Hon Victor
Ochei was the defined point for the 2015 guber race.
Hon Ese Onota, Chairman of DCPF in Udu LGA said he joined
the group when he was convinced of its focus, direction and uncompromising
stature. He said DCPF has a governorship aspirant in mind and the choice of
Victor Ochei as its Principal was not dependent on zoning arrangement.
“We have found all the qualities we want in a politician that
could be the governor of Delta State in 2015 on Victor Ochei. He is a rising
sun and we should give him the needed support”.
In his contribution Mr Vincent Egajivwie, State Coordinator
of the group called for a united effort to support Rt.Hon Victor Ochei for the
exalted office of Governor of Delta State, come 2015. However he strongly
warned against any attempt to subvert the individual and collective efforts of
the group to seeing Ochei emerge as the next governor, for personal gains.
Speaking, the national chairman of the group, Hon Ochuko
Mejire rhetorted that every child has a right to claim the inheritance of his
father and that the Urhobo nation having over 52 per cent of Delta population
stands a good chance to determine the political direction of Delta State in
2015.
He said he has been personally accused of being one among
those selling Urhobo but that his accusers were yet to identify the buyers of
Urhobo. He reiterated that Urhobo must stand in the forefront and determine who
will be governor of Delta State in 2015 so long the interest of Urhobo is
protected. Hon Mejire said Urhobo political fortune has been bleak because
those Urhobo supported to be in government have protected only their selfish
interest.
“We must all stand firm and be counted as those who made the
next government of Delta State. If we stand firm and preach the gospel there is
no reason why most of us in this group will not be empowered.
“I tell you straight from my heart that Rt. Hon Victor Ochei
is the one we trust and believe that will take us to where we want to get to. I
believe that as as we inaugurate the Uvwie chapter of DCPF it will mark the
turning point of Uvwie politics and Delta State in general. I assure you that
you will not be left behind and I pray to God to give you the strength to carry
on with the task and the grace to benefit from your effort.
“On this note you are inaugurated in the name of God the
Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Go forth and work” Mejire commanded.
Among those inaugurated were: Benjamin Ogbon (Chairman),
Alisi Wilson (Vice Chairman), Eruteyan Eradajaye (Sec), Onorame Ubiame
(Treasurer), Friday Omasheye (FinSec), Happy Egwemitoma (Pub Sec), Pat Kuti
Abayovwe (Org Sec), Wilson Nikoro (Legal Adviser),Samuel Agbaja (Auditor), Mike
Agbaren(Youth Leader), Evelyn Ewen (Women Leader), Lucky Uboh (Asst Sec),
Tough Oshamre (Asst Pub Sec) and Wilson Fanike (Asst Org Sec).
The executive also had six ex-officio members namely: Joshua
Ebrusike, Tina Akarewan, Kelvin Ozili, Godwin Akpobuwa, Uloh Monije and Abraham
Awana.
All the executive members were introduced by the DCPF State
youth leader, Mr Sunny Akpobuwa who earlier assured of working hand in gloves
with the executive to achieve success for the 2015 political challenge.
