Following the peaceful transition of power in the Delta State House of Assembly during the week, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has described the state as a model for others to learn from. This is just as he has pleaded with aspirants and political actors in the state to continue in the peaceful manner in which they have been conducting their consultations, commending the state’s House of Assembly on the peaceful manner it transited from one speaker to another.
The governor, who said the tempo of political consultations has upped in the past few weeks, made these assertions at his quarterly security meeting with traditional monarchs and some members of his cabinet on Thursday, held at the Government House Annex, Warri, Delta State.
Earlier, Governor Uduaghan kick-started the 2014 First Quarter Polio Eradication Programme Sensitization Campaign in Sapele where he identified the activities of Boko Haram members as a potential threat against the eradication of polio in Nigeria, calling for vigilance from states where there are no incidence of polio virus.
According to him, Nigeria ranks among Afghanistan and Pakistan as countries that still have cases of polio in the world, stating that while the two countries share terror crises, the activities of Boko Haram members in Nigeria were hampering the total eradication of the polio virus and making Nigerians to migrate to safer states.
The governor, who was accompanied by his deputy, Professor Amos Utuama, urged Deltans to ensure that their environment is kept clean as a way of checkmaking the spread of diseases, saying all stakeholders should pay more attention to routine immunisation for their children.
