Speaker of the Delta
State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has declared support for the planned
national dialogue already set in motion by the Federal Government just as he
took a swipe at critics of the conference.
Speaking in an exclusive
chat with The Infra News in Asaba, the head of the legislative arm of Delta
State government said a national dialogue had become most imperative to
determine the future of project Nigeria.
In view of the jagged
edges of the Nigerian State, he said, a national conference would be most
appropriate at this time to discuss the areas of disagreements between
constituent parts of the country and other ethnic nationalities.
“ It is obvious that
things are not working. When things are not working, let us sit down and
discuss. That is the only way to go about it. Let’s discuss this project called
Nigeria. Let us discuss those areas that we are in disagreement with.
“We can’t keep shying
away from it. We need to discuss it. Whether we call it national dialogue or
sovereign national conference, whatever you have to call it. The most important
thing is that we have to talk. The stage is set for the talk. You have
clamoured for it, the president has graciously allowed it”, he said.
The speaker lambasted
critics of the dialogue whom he accused of considering the conference a charade
but lacking in alternatives to the planned dialogue.
“Everybody is entitled
to his opinion. When it fails, we will know that it has failed but would you
rather not try an option by saying that it is a charade. If it a charade, what
is their own proposition.
“I tell people that each
time you point at the leadership, four fingers point back at the followership.
If you say the leadership proposed it. What is your own solution. Give us a
solution. But if you criticise for the sake of criticising then you are not
constructive”, he said.
