Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and the Speaker of
the Delta State House of Assembly have congratulated the Chief Emmanuel
Aguariavwodo, on his victory and emergence as the Senator-elect from the Delta
Central Senatorial by-election.
Speaking during a victory party hosted for the PDP and
Aguariavwodo inside his private residence in Warri, Governor Uduaghan advised
the senator-elect to always remember his constituency when he gets to the
senate, stressing that he must bring the dividends of democracy to the Urhobo
people.
“May this not be the last time we are going to see you.
Always find time to come back home and consult with your people so that when
you go back you can fight for their rights. Go and bring all the dividends of
democracy to your people,” the governor said.
On his part, Chief Aguariavwodo, thanked the people of
Delta Central for their support, promising to do his very best for the
district.
In a press release congratulating the senator-elect, Rt.
Honourable Ochei stated that the victory is a testament to Delta Central’s
preference for worthy representation at the upper chamber of the National
Assembly, through a viable vehicle as provided by the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP).
He observed further that this triumph could not have come
at a more auspicious time, when the electorate desire quality and
result-oriented representation, attributes which Chief Aguarivwodo has in
abundance, considering his wealth of experience in legislative business as an
erstwhile member of the Federal House Of Representatives.
Honourable Ochei also urged the Senator-elect to
reciprocate this gesture of acceptability from the electorate, by availing them
of the dividends of democracy.
The legislator equally congratulated His Excellency, Dr
Emmanuel Uduaghan on this overwhelming victory, which accentuates the
Governor’s political astuteness and sagacity, thereby confirming the Peoples
Democratic Party as the dominant political party in Delta State.
The Speaker also commended the Delta Central Senatorial
zone for their peaceful conduct while voting the PDP, adding that, this gesture
will spur the party to greater commitment to providing more democratic
dividends, in line with Governor Uduaghan’s three point agenda.
According to results released by the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC, the PDP candidate scored a total of 263,024 votes
to defeat Chief O’tega Emerhor of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who polled
29,075 votes, while Chief Ede Dafinone of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP)
polled 29,055.
