2015: DELTA PDP CHAIRMAN BLASTS SSG OVER POWER SHIFT

DELTA State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, yesterday, faulted the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Ovuozourie Macaulay, for saying that he was not aware of any agreement between the Anioma and other parts of the state for a power shift.

Nwaoboshi who described the comment as “provocative,” told Vanguard in an interview that he had received several phone calls since the SSG  made the statement, which was published in a national newspaper on Monday.

ENGINEER Victor Ochei is the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly. In this interview, he speaks on issues ranging from power shift, the activities of the State Assembly, especially in relation to the 2014 Appropriation bill. Excerpts:

Recently, the Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, presented the 2014 budget proposals to the Delta State House of Assembly. What will be the factors that will guide your speedy action in this respect?

COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENT COMMENDS DELTA ASSEMBLY FOR EXCELLENT ORGANISATIONAL ABILITY

The Secretariat of the 66th Executive Committee Meeting of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Africa Region has commended the Delta State House of Assembly for its excellent organisation of the ongoing conference in Asaba.

The Assistant Regional Secretary of the body, Mr Demetrius Mgalami made the commendation when Rt. Hon (Engr.) Victor Ochei, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, the host Legislature visited the secretariat to enable him assess the preparations toward a successful hosting.

WHY DTHA WILL GIVE SPEEDY CONSIDERATION TO 2014 APPROPRIATION BILL —OCHEI

THE  Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Engr. Victor Ochei, recently  fielded questions from The POINTER crew of Monday Uwagwu, Sam Ijeh and Iteveh Ekpokpobe, in which he responded to legion questions, including the House’s activities, especially in relation to the 2014 Appropriation Bill of the state.  His responses to our questions are in paraphrase.

Mr Speaker, recently, the Governor of Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, as the head of the executive arm of the state government, presented a proposal of the 2014 budget proposal to the Delta State House of Assembly. PDP, BEST VEHICLE TO REAPING DEMOCRACY DIVIDENDS – RT HON. VICTOR OCHEI

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon (Engr) Victor Ochei has described the People’s Democratic Party as the veritable vehicle through which Deltans will reap and savour the dividends of democracy.
He made this landmark statement at Utagba Uno in Ndokwa-West Local Government Area of Delta State, when Hon Azuka Azaka, member representing Ndokwa-West at the Delta State House of Assembly led over ten thousand erstwhile members of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) to the People’s Democratic Party.
In the legislator’s words, “the present Uduaghan administration which came into governance on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, has demonstrated unfathomable commitment to providing the dividends of democracy to the polity, by the faithful implementation of the three point agenda”.

REFLECT ON THE ESSENCE OF THE YULETIDE – OCHEI

Rt. Hon (Engr) Ochei has urged Deltans and indeed mankind to celebrate the yuletide by reflecting on its very essence, which symbolically heralds the birth of our Lord Jesus to reconcile mankind to our creator.
The call was made in his seasonal goodwill message to Deltans.

According to him, “as we celebrate as Deltans I want us to reflect on the very essence of this season, and adequately appraise the relationship between Deltans, mankind and our creator”.

He also observed that as a praying and prayerful state with the sobriquet “The Finger of God”, there is compelling need to uphold the values and virtues that make us see one another as one indivisible people.

While wishing Deltans a merry Christmas and a fruitful new year, the legislator opined that observing the core essence of the season will make Delta come out as a better state.

I AM STILL CONSULTING ON 2015 DELTA GUBER RACE – SPEAKER

Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has broken his silence on the state’s 2015 governorship race, maintaining that he is still consulting over the matter.

He stated this on Tuesday in Asaba during the 2013 end of the year media parley, disclosing that as a politician, he has to start getting ready for 2014 when political activities intensify. He added that would disclose his intention after rounding off his consultation with his constituents.

The speaker stated that he would not stop politicking, saying that he is entitled to contest for any position, can work with and support anybody and that he is qualified he would seek for the support of Deltans.

2015: OCHEI IS OUR CHOICE FOR GOVERNOR—ITSEKIRI LEADERS

The people of Itsekiri in Delta State have expressed full support for the governorship ambition of the Delta Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei as their choice to succeed Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan come 2015.
This was revealed by the pioneer Chairman of Warri South West Local Government Area, Hon. David Atikpekpe, who also stated that the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei is the choice of the entire Itsekiri people for the governor of Delta state in 2015.
The former council boss, who was paid a courtesy visit yesterday by members of the Delta Focus Group, DFG at his country home along Odion road in Warri, Delta state, further noted that since Delta central and south had both enjoyed the seat for eight years each, it is wise to cede it to Delta north.

DELTA 2015: DELTA NORTH SENATORIAL LEADERS TO REACH OUT TO OTHER ZONES

Leaders from Delta North senatorial district have pledged to engage their counterparts from other zones towards making the emergence of the governor of the state in 2015 from the zone a negotiated exercise as they identified agriculture and a strong industrial base as critical factors for sustainable development of the state.

In a well attended strategic conference in Lagos at the weekend, stakeholders from the academia, political class and royal fathers outlined the road map to the election of a governor of the state from Delta North extraction in 2015, noting that a large array of competent, educated and experienced leaders are available to take the state to greater heights.

OCHEI: ENDURING FOOTSTEPS OF AN UNUSUAL PHILANTHROPIST

In ageless Africa, it is said that the heart that gives love is humane, but the one that demonstrates care, is simply godly.

In simple terms, our ancestors, long ago, realised that while love is desirable, care, its nobler variant, is ideal.

Luckily, our subject-Rt. Hon. Victor Onyekachi Ochei, has both virtues( love and care) in the right proportion, in his kitty.

Long before he ventured into partisan politics (in lieu of which benefit-popular support, for instance- many of our elite today become emergency do-gooders for decoyed selfish reasons), or even dreamt of it, Victor Ochei had not only drawn up the skeleton of his acknowledgedly huge humanitarianism, but had actually began to give flesh to the sketch, by way of positive actions. Today, like the millipede’s legion legs on wet soil, Hon. Ochei’s humanitarian activities are firmly rooted in community service, sports, education, the media, infrastructure, etc.

OCHEI AND THE DELTA 2015 HOUNDS

The 2015 elections may be a year and several months away but in Delta State, the impression one gets is that the gubernatorial poll may well be holding tomorrow. While hardly anyone has publicly declared for the race, certain interested politicians are already at one another’s throats in what is fast deteriorating into a rat race to Government House.

My projection is that the acrimony with which various political gladiators are trying to actualize their ambitions may well lead to bloodshed in the period leading up to the election proper, a pointer to which is the dastardly attempt on the life of Engr. Victor Ochei, incumbent Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly. The failed assassination, a brazen act of terrorism, took place at Obomkpa, a town in Aniocha North Local Government Area, which Ochei represents at the Assembly, targeting him in what was a clear attempt to murder him in cold blood at an event at which he was engaging his constituents at a grassroots level.
